### What is Volume

Volume is the amount of three-dimensional space a substance or object occupies. When talking about a container,
volume can also be describe as the capacity of the container or the amount of liquid a container can hold.

Calculating the volume depends on the shape of the object. Each shape has different formulas. See formulas

### Formulas

**Rectangular Prism:**
V = lwh
Where:
l = length of the Prism
w = width of the Prism
h = height of the Prism

**Cube:**
V = a³
Where:
a = measurement of one side of the cube

**Sphere:**
V = (4/3)πr³
Where:
π = pi or 3.14159265359
r = radius of the sphere

**Cylinder:**
V = πr²h
Where:
π = pi or 3.14159265359
r = radius of the base of cylinder
h = height of the cylinder

**Square Pyramid:**
V = (1/3)a2h
Where:
a = measurement of base edge of the pyramid
h = height of the pyramid

**Rectangular Pyramid:**
V = (1/3)lwh
Where:
l = length of the base of pyramid
w = width of the base of pyramid
h = height of the base of pyramid

**Cone:**
V = πr²h
Where:
π = pi or 3.14159265359
r = radius of the base of cone
h = height of the cone

**Ellipsoid:**
V = (4/3)πr_{1}r_{2}r_{3}
Where:
π = pi or 3.14159265359
r_{1} = radius of major axis
r_{2} = radius of minor axis
r_{3} = radius of vertical axis
